Sonia likely to get re-elected Congress Chief un-opposed
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi are among the top Congress leaders who proposed the name of Sonia Gandhi for the post of Congress President. Today is the last day for filing the nominations.
According to party chairman of the central election authority, Oscar Fernandes, several set of nomination papers were filed seeking her re-election for fourth time in a row to lead the party.
The other leaders who have proposed her name include Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit, Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan and Bhupinder Singh Hooda of Haryana.
AIR correspondent reports that Sonia Gandhi seems to be set to be re-elected unopposed. Ms Gandhi has created a record for the longest tenure as Congress chief by steering the party since April 1998 when she replaced the late Sitaram Kesri.
