Parliamentary panel expresses concern on circulation of counterfeit currency

A parliamentary panel has expressed serious concern over the menace of growing circulation of counterfeit currency in the country. In a report, tabled in the monsoon session of the Parliament, the committee on public undertaking maintained that this has assumed alarming proportions in the recent years.
The panel has called upon the Reserve Bank of India to introduce easily recognisable and high on anti counterfeiting security features in the design of currency notes. This, the committee, observed has to be on the lines of international practices.
The panel said that RBI has stated that it has initiated a number of steps to cope up with the challenge of counterfeit currency. However, the panel observes the awareness campaign launched by it for the masses has not reached them so far.
