Headley’s interrogation reveals clear links with Pak agencies – Menon
National Security Advisor, Shiv Shankar Menon today said the interrogation of David Coleman Headley, the prime suspect behind the Mumbai terror attack, has revealed clear links with official establishment and intelligence agencies of Pakistan. He also said that the situation is has bad as was thought and ithe nexus between terror groups and Pak officials is growing stronger and cannot be easily broken. It may be recalled that the Home Secretary, Mr. G.K Pillai had recently said that the ISI played a major role in the Mumbai attacks and it was literally controlling and coordinating the attacks from the beginning till the end. According to officials, Headley has also corroborated the statement of lone captured terrorist Ajmal Amir Kasab that the terrorists got training from Pakistan Navy.
Headley had also told the interrogators that the Pakistani intelligence agency had paid 25 lakh rupees to LeT to purchase a boat which terrorists used to travel from Karachi to the Pakistani maritime boundary, where they hijacked an Indian fishing boat ‘Kuber’ to reach Mumbai.
Mr. Menon said the terror groups in South Asia have fused together in a way that the traditional distinctions between them have become meaningless. Expressing concern over reports of acquisition of nuclear weapons by terror groups, he stressed on the need to develop better instruments to counter the threat of terror.
