Chandrababu, TDP leaders begin hunger strike against their detention by Maha Govt

The detained TDP leaders, including party president Chandrababu Naidu have begun hunger strike in the custody protesting against what they term as their illegal detention by Maharashtra Government.

TDP president and 73 other leaders have been detained by Maharashtra police and kept in an educational institute in Dharmabad of Naded district in Maharashtra for the past two days.

AIR Nanded correspondent informed that the Maharashtra Police are making arrangements to present the TDP leaders before the magistrate as the remand period will come to an end on Monday.

Meanwhile, the TDP has condemned Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s remarks that the sentiments of Maharashtra people are being hurt by the TDP’s proposed visit. Party Rajya Sabha Member Mysoora Reddy in a release clarified that the party’s intension was to verify the media reports that gates are installed to Babli project violating Supreme Court’s interim orders. He also said Maharashtra Government has been suppressing the facts by obstructing a delegation from neighbourhood.

The state-wide bandh called by TDP protesting against arresting its leaders has received mixed response in Andhra Pradesh. Work in offices both in Government and private is going on almost as usual, while shops, petrol pumps, and cinema theatres remained closed in some areas in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

However, Bus commuters are facing hardships following withdrawal of several services of the state road transport corporation due to protest demonstrations by TDP activists in the state capital and also at several other places across the state. Most of the Educational institutes especially private schools and colleges were remained closed on Monday.
