BSNL ahead in takeover race

BSNL has entered the second round of bidding process to acquire Zambia’s leading telecom firm Zambia Telecommunications Ltd (Zamtel).
BSNL is among four operators who have qualified for the new round. The other operators are LAP Green Networks of Libya, Unitel and Altimo Holdings.
The Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) board in a meeting held on January 11 approved the shortlist after detailed analysis conducted by an evaluation committee.
The four bidders will now be invited to participate in the next round of bidding, which is expected to begin during the week commencing January 18. At the beginning of this phase shortlisted bidders will be given details of the requirements and timing for the next phase of the process.
