With its flight schedules slowly getting back to normal with the pilots’ strike ending early on Sunday, Jet Airways tried to regain shattered passenger confidence and boost load factors by announcing a whopping 50 per cent discount Sunday evening on some economy class seats on domestic routes for a limited period starting Monday.
Jet said tickets with the discounted price will be sold from September 14 to 16 (Monday to Wednesday) for travel from September 14 till September 18 (Friday) for domestic flights of Jet Airways and Jet Airways Konnect (its all-economy no-frills service). The discount is inclusive of basic fare and fuel surcharge but does not include airport development fee, user development fee and passenger service fee.
All its pilots were returning to duty and all through Sunday the airline was busy rostering pilots for flight duty. The airline’s call centre claimed all flights would operate as per normal schedule by Monday. Bookings were also being taken for flights on Sunday.
The airline cancelled about 150 flights on Sunday and announced the cancellation of seven flights on Monday.
With airline officials nervous on how soon passengers would return, it devised the 50 per cent discount strategy in the hope that nothing wins back Indian passengers more than low fares. With overall seat capacity in the aviation sector restored along with the 50 per cent discount by Jet, passengers can hope for a return to lower fares compared to the past few days. Jet Airways hopes normal load factors can be restored by Monday or Tuesday at the latest due to the discount scheme.
