Biocon, Amylin in peptide pact
Bengaluru-based Biotechnology giant Biocon and US firm Amylin Pharmaceuticals on Friday announced an agreement to develop, commercialise, and produce a new peptide therapeutic for the treatment of diabetes.
Amylin is a well known name involved in the research and development of peptide — a molecule formed by joining two or more.
The two firms will explore a new molecule called Phybrid — a peptide hybrid to address diabetes.
The molecule will have two functional properties. It could lower the glucose level for a diabetic patient as well as control the person’s weight.
“The agreement brings out a whole new dimension for addressing diabetes,” a spokesperson from Biocon said.
He also said that it would take several years of research and analysis to commercialise this compound.
