Roger Federer 300x187 Roger Federer beats Robin Soderling at US Open 2009 Top seed Roger Federer overcame an inspired comeback effort by Robin Soderling to beat the 25-year-old Swede 6-0 6-3 6-7 7-6, winning the final-set tiebreaker 8-6 at U.S. Open tennis 2009.

While disappointed that he could not wrap up the game in three sets, Federer admitted he was happy with his performance at Flushing Meadows.

“It was so close toward the end,” said Federer, who has beaten Soderling in all 12 career meetings, including at Wimbledon and the French Open this year.

“I thought it was a great match towards the end. I got off to a flier but I’m happy I still got through in the fourth,” also said Federer

“It’s a great relief to come through. He started to play better and better as the match went on. I knew he was going to be tough but the beginning was bit too easy.

“All of sudden he found his way into the match.”

Roger Federer’s victory was his 12th over the Swede and by reaching the semis he also clocked up a record 22nd appearance in the last four of a grand slam.
