Rafael Nadal born on 3rdJune 1986 is a Spanish professional tennis player who has won six Grand Slam singles titles; four at the French Open and one at Wimbledon. He was ranked number one in the world, and had held that position since 18 August 2008, but on July 6, 2009, he became number two again after Roger Federer won Wimbledon. He plays very well on the clay court, and many people regard Nadal as the greatest clay-court tennis player in history. Nadal is best known for his matches against the best player of his generation, Roger Federer. He is naturally right-handed, but plays tennis with his left hand.

He has played in four French Open tournaments 2005 to 2008 and won all four. He also reached the final at Wimbledon 2006, 2007, losing to Roger Federer each time. However, in 2008, he beat Federer in the Wimbledon final.

Nadal missed the 2009 Wimbledon due to tendinitis in the knee.

Rafael Nadal vs Richard  Gasquet

Rafael Nadal was back into action beat the erratic and tentative Richard  Gasquet, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round at the United States Open, was also Nadal’s return to Grand Slam tennis his first opportunity to chart a new course in the majors after losing for the first time at the French Open.

Roger Federer vs Simon Greul

In one of the second round matches played today top ranked Roger Federer defeated  Simon Greul,  6 – 3; 7 – 5; 7 -5.

Lleyton Hewitt vs Juan Ignacio

Lleyton Hewitt carried over his strong play from the first round into today’s second round match.  He again won in straight sets, eliminating Juan Ignacio Chela, 6 – 3; 6 – 3; 6 – 4.
