Charges low: Airports
The Association of Private Airports’ Operators (APAO) on Friday said that handling charges at Indian airports are the lowest in the world.
The statement comes in the wake of private airlines blaming the high handling charges being collected at the private airports for their losses.
APAO said the airport charges constitute only 3.5 per cent of the total costs of the airlines. Route Navigation Facilities Charges and Terminal Navigation Landing Charges are collected by the government-owned Airport Authority of India.
Formed in 2008, APAO comprises GMR Hyderabad International Airport, Bengaluru International Airport, Cochin International Airport, Delhi International Airport and Mumbai Intern-ational Airport.
The APAO secretary general, Mr.K.L. Kanthan, said: “Airport charges were increased after eight years only once by 10 per cent as against the aggregate inflation of 48 per cent.”
